So as of last week I finally got all the parts necessary to make one amazing computer using the new Intel I7 processor with 6 GB on triple channel DDR3 RAM. I also got the MSI x58 Platinum motherboard, and an awesome CoolMaster CM 690 case. I have to be honest, I wasn’t really sure how awesome it was going to be until I put this machine together. I didn’t realize the benefits of the CoolMaster case, or the capability of my motherboard. At the time I was more interested in finding a great deal to get the I7 and a good chunk of DDR 3 RAM, but I underestimated the other components.

For example, the case has the plastic pieces that slide in you hard drives so you don’t have to spend all that time trying to get them in and out. Also all you expansion slots are held in place by a plastic lever rather then screws that you have to keep track of. And speaking of screws, this case does come with a bag of screws that you have watch carefully over, instead they are installed on the chassis so all you have to do is pull them out as needed; and there’s plenty of extras. Those are some of the extras I didn’t expect, but I’m also glad that is does what I do expect and that is keeping my system cool. It has a metal mesh material that allows for great ventilation, and its large and roomy on the inside for plenty of fans; not to mention the three it comes with.

The motherboard also has some great perks, but rather then attempt to define somethings I just don’t understand I’ll say this which I know is a selling point, it has the capability to run 24 GB of RAM, and can perform SLI or Crossfire with two x16 bandwith PCI-E expansion slots. This board is a great combination with the I7 and for $200 you can’t beat its ability.

To say the least, I’m very excited about this system and although I typically upgrade every year to try to keep up with the Gates, I think this system will last me quiet awhile. I know I say that now, but I just can’t see how much better they can get for me to actually need anything else. I guess we’ll revisit that thought in about a year, until then, I talk at you later.
